Los Matadores de Charanga Habanera

This Cuban band found its origin at the beginning of the 80ies under the direction of José Picayos and played rather traditional Cuban music. Ever since then Cha-Cha-Cha, Mambo, Bolero and Guaracha are part of their repertoire. The original band constellation was made up of Gerardo Aguillon (violin, formerly member by "Ritmo Oriental"), David Calzado and Jorge Emilio Maza (flute) who were joined by singer Juan Carlos Gonzalez. Their first own recording was called "De La Habana a Montecarlo".

A couple of talented musicians wanted to become part of this exciting constellation and joined the artist as members of Charanga Habanera. By 1992 they recorded their first album called "Me sube la fiebre", where Juan Manuel Arranz and Mandolin, doctor de la salsa was also part of it. Two further albums were published in 1994 and 1996. Although many new young and talented musicians joined the band, they unfortunately have not yet celebrated a big breakthrough. Thus the recording of the song "Tremendo Delirio" was their last success. One year later, singer Mario Jimenez established "Chaeanga Forever" while Danny Lozado called "Timba Cubana" into live. David Calzado decided to maintain the name of the band. Since 2000 the new formation of Charanga Habanera is once again on the road to success.

In the last couple of years, a numer of new, young musicians joined the band and they toured across Europe, North and South America, Japan and even North Africa. Their album "LIVE IN THE USA" got even nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards in 2003. Charanga Habanera is definitely one of the biggest and triumphant bands in the past 20 years.

Los Matadares de Charanga Habanera are made up of Randy Malcom (MC Randy) and Aned Mota (El Moty). Both are musicians by Charanga Habanera. They soon recognized the new music revolution of modern Cuba and musically combined Timba with Cubaton to charge the Cubaton hit list of the new music generation.
